The Phlegraean Fields, northwest of Naples, are a volcanic region famous in Homer and Virgil's epic poems. From Agnano to Pozzuoli, 24 geothermal springs offer mineral-rich waters and mud, still used in modern spa centers. The Greeks believed this area was the entrance to the underworld, and the Sibyl of Cumae prophesied here. The Romans later built luxurious villas, the first amphitheater, and impressive aqueducts. It’s also a place of Christian history, with St. Gennaro’s beheading and St. Paul’s arrival on his way to Rome. A captivating mix of natural wonders and historical significance, the Phlegraean Fields are a must-see!
